Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How often will I need to replace the insect blocking gel?
A: One application of gel can last all year. Just make sure to occasionally inspect the gel for foreign debris (like lint or grass clippings) that could create a bridge for ants to cross the gel. You can purchase replacement gel here. If you want to clean out old gel, we recommend just wiping thoroughly with some paper towels. The gel is very water resistant, so it's difficult to clean off with soap and water.

Q: Can you tell me more about the BugSnub® insect blocking gel?
A: BugSnub® insect blocking gel is a mineral oil based gel made from 100% food grade ingredients, so it's safe around food, kids, and pets. It creates a physical (not chemical) barrier that is too goopy for ants to walk across. It is formulated to keep its goopy consistency even in hot weather, so it won't melt or dry up.
~~~~~~~~
Q: How much insect blocking gel should I apply?
A: Use about 1/2 of a packet to 1 whole packet of gel. This is enough to create a thick, complete ring inside the insect deterrent cup. If you have a BugSnub Tray or BugSnub Legs for Trays, it is not necessary to put gel in the little holes.
~~~~~~~~
Q: Can I use the BugSnub® hanger for things other than a hummingbird feeder?
A: Yes you can. I use a BugSnub® hanger for a bluebird house in my front yard. It keeps the ants away from the baby chicks when they are most vulnerable. It's also great for hanging plants.
~~~~~~~~
Q: For the BugSnub® Tray Legs what's the largest tray you recommend for use?
A: We use a 16x12 inch stainless steel tray in our kitchen. If you exceed 16-inches of space between the BugSnub® Tray Legs we recommend using a second set to place support in the middle of the tray. It will also depend on the weight of goods you are storing on the tray and the material your tray is made of.
~~~~~~~~
Q: How should I clean out the gel and store the BugSnub hanging ant guard for next season?
A: Just wipe the gel out with a paper towel. We don't recommend washing the gel with soap and water, because it is so sticky and impervious to water. You can store the BugSnub ant guard in a ziplock bag. If a little bit of the gel remains in the cup when you re apply next season, just apply fresh gel on top of it.
